Things to-do When Moving
Moving into a new home? We know it can be both exciting and stressful at the same time. To help with the planning process and to put your mind a bit more at ease, we created a “to-do” list that will help make your transition a bit less stressful. Check out these must do steps before you move into new home!
Call utility companies
Before you move, you need to call your local utility companies. Gas, water, electricity, garbage, cable, internet, & sewer will need to be turned on before moving day.
Update your address
Go online and change your address to your new home through the United States Post Office. You can also go in person to your local Post Office and fill out a form.
Install smoke detectors and fire extinguishers
Before your first night’s sleep in your new home, you want to ensure that your family is protected. Check that the smoke detectors work, install news ones if necessary, and make sure they have new batteries in them. You will also want to locate the fire extinguisher.
Know where the water shut off and main circuit breaker are located
Make sure you are aware how to use the circuit breaker. Ensure it has clear labels, so you know which breaker turns off which area of the home. Also, make sure you know where the emergency water shut off value is should there be a leak.
Have mechanical equipment cleaned and serviced
When you move in, have an inspection of the homes heating and cooling system. This will ensure your system is running at maximum efficiency, which will save you time and money in the long run. You may also want to consider getting a protection plan so future issues with your system can be avoided.
Now, relax and enjoy your new home!
